Temporality vs Permanence

Flooding-Urban-Environment

In the wake of the recent climate events hitting major cities around the world, we in the construction industry have been pushed to rethink our position on what permanence vs temporality really means. We know that this place we call home will not be here forever, and as temporary occupants of this space, it’s our moral duty to protect and preserve our presence for as long as we can hold on.

How do we future proof our spaces?

Our ancestors built permanent structures which they had foreseen would last for generations, but with all that’s been going on, its time to build spaces that are mobile and can adapt to different landscapes and environments. Climate change is real and the idea of temporality should be embraced as we try to reduce the levels of embedded carbon in our buildings moving forward.

About 71% of our planet is covered by water, and its fluid nature calls for an architecture model that is mobile, one with character to adapt with the tide.
